As we keep using fossil fuels for our energy needs, we come face to face with the consequences of the pollution generated and the damage it’s doing to the environment. We have to see change and automobiles are certainly an area we can target. Auto manufacturers have started to produce environmentally friendly cars in an effort minimize the detrimental consequences of fuel emissions.

An automobile that runs on battery might might be the vehicle that is best for the environment. Since the battery is the primary source of power, the vehicle does not need any of the usual car gasoline. So this is great for the environment and will result in cash savings but there is a problem to think about. Although they are available to the public today, due to being a recent development, the car engines have limitations. The battery charge lasts roughly 100 miles, so the car won’t run too far without having to get get charged again.

Still one alternative available is a hybrid vehicle. An environmentally friendly hybrid is gasoline and battery powered. You may be asking yourself, ‘How is that possible?’ Well, let me tell you. In the beginning, the vehicle is powered by the battery. As the car calls for increased power and achieves a specific speed, this is when it begins using gas. One big plus is the automatic charging of the battery as a result of petrol consumption, so you don’t have to do this yourself.

One other alternative is a vehicle known as a plug-in hybrid vehicle. Plug-in hybrid cars are also friendly to the environment and work like the hybrids noted above. The plug-in variety does, however, need to be charged up manually whereas this is an automatic function of the typical hybrid. Compared to regular cars, you will see that hybrid cars are terrific for fuel efficiency.

The Prius is a hybrid vehicle developed by Toyota and has been tested to run 50 miles per gallon. It costs more or less $22,000 and is today one of the market leaders. Honda was in fact the first to enter the market for hybrid cars with a hybrid called the Insight and Toyota followed suit. It introduced customers to the hybrid car even if it wasn’t welcomed in the same manner as the Prius by Toyota. There’s also the Ford Fusion Hybrid which has gotten many accolades and can be had for around $27,000. It has been hailed as the greatest American hybrid car created. Mitsubishi has created the ‘i-MiEV’, which boasts of perfectly no fuel emissions. When it comes to Japanese auto makers, it was one of the earliest electric cars created.

As technology becomes better and the market gets bigger we are going to see a great deal more alternatives for buyers in the hybrid and eco friendly car world.
